St, Ignace to Traverse City, Michigan
We catch a ferry across to Mackinac Island this morning. It goes via the Mackinac Bridge, which is a 5 mile long suspension bridge, to give us a view from underneath. On the island there are no cars. Transport is via your own feet, a bicycle or horses. So we catch a horse carriage tour that takes us for a ride around a part of the island. We see the Rock Arch, and the old fort plus go through the state forest. We stop at the Grand Hotel, which has the longest portico in the world. After lunch we wander around the shops, tasting some of the fudge, and then catch the ferry back to the mainland. We move south across the bridge and down around Lake Michigan, looking at some of the large houses in gated communities along the shore line. The weather was perfect for wandering around today.

We love Mackinac. We rented bikes and rode some of the way around, and Harrison really enjoyed the Fort, only it had sprinkled when we were there and I fell on my butt...Of course I had white capri pants on... And the fudge...yummo.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the bridge from that angle. Great looking at your photos.
