Clear Lake to North Sioux City, South Dakota
Our first port of call is the Surf Ballroom, where Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valence played their last show. We also go out to the memorial at the crash site. We move further west to Britt where there is a Hobo Museum. The annual Hobo Convention is later this week, where people come from far and wide to meet and celebrate. We have a long drive ahead of us as we take in another scenic drive. We stop to view one of the many wind farms along the way. You can drive straight up to them and walk around them. Not like at home. We arrive at Le Mars, the self proclaimed Ice Cream Capital of the World, for an ice cream from the Blue Bunny Ice Creamery. Lovely. We keep moving west until we meet the Big Sioux River and turn onto yet another scenic byway for a short period before calling it a day. Blue skies and sunshine greeted us everywhere.
