Davenport to Dubuque, Iowa

Scenic byways today. We follow back roads over rolling hills, through little bits of forest and lots of corn and  soy bean. We pass through cute little villages, some seeming to be alive others on a slow decline. There is a penitentiary at Alamosa that is a great work of art in stone. We stop at a diner for morning tea and they were most excited to have Australians stop. We get back to the mighty Mississippi at Dubuque where we visit a stately old home, an old jail, and take a short ride on the little but very steep railway. Great views from the top both day and night. It rained today with lots of lightening and thunder. But that has all passed now and it will be fine again tomorrow. Go Pies.
