North Sioux City to Winterset, Iowa
We continue south following the scenic byway. We are surrounded by hills, corn and beans. Sometimes the crops are even terraced on the side of the hills. We have a couple of look outs over the Missouri River valley. The country side is pretty and there is very little traffic. We arrive in Council Bluffs and visit what is know as a Squirrel Jail. All the cells radiate from a central hub over 3 floors. The cells are then rotated around to match up with a door way, and that is how they can enter and exit the cells. An interesting concept. Outside the jail we see a real squirrel, a rare black squirrel found in this town. We leave our scenic byway here and turn east. We stop at Greenfield to look at a newly renovated Opera House. They have done a really good job. We overnight in Winterset. The day was fine and pretty hot, but rain and thunderstorms are predicted for tonight.
