Fairfield to Davenport, Iowa

As we head north we pass through a barn quilt area. What is a barn quilt, do I hear you ask? It is a quilt pattern that is placed on the front or side of a barn. We stop for a few pictures before heading to Kalona. This is Amish territory, having the largest population west of the Mississippi. We look through a history museum and a quilt exhibition. Well, Kalona is classified as the quilt capital of Iowa. Next we drop in on a fruit and vegie auction, where there are Amish horse and buggies all lined up. We move further nrth and we stop at the Amana Colonies. Yet another religious group persecuted in the old lands, and moved to America. This one however is no longer practicing the old ways, and the villages are now all very pretty tourist attractions. We now head east to the Herbert Hoover Presidential museum and birth place. Very interesting man. Then to Walcott to visit the largest truck stop in the world, and it is huge. The number of trucks is staggering, plus the shops sells almost anything. We stop just a little further down the road at Devenport.
