Prairie Du Chien to Red Wing, Minnesota
Today we are following the Great River Road up the Mississippi. We pass through a number of small towns, a lot showing their history around the river. Because of the many flood gates and locks, the river spreads out into lakes. There are lots of little islands and back waters with water lilies and lots of birds. Of course the train line also follows the river and there are a lot of trains going by. We see 4 in a matter of 25 km, and each has up to 100 carriages. By days end we have seen more than 12 trains. We sort of stopped counting. The sides of the Mississippi here are towering bluffs, some of which we can go up get superb views over the river. We also see some sculptures, folk art, and eat some nice food (not the fried stuff) along the way. Weather has been cloudy but pleasant, but the drizzle has caught up with us as we stop for the night. We have been exactly 2 weeks on the road and have traveled 3,881 km....not bad eh!!
And I almost forgot......Go Pies....

How have you found the Americans? Any difference between the state lines? Keep clocking up the kms!!
ReplyDeleteThe Mid-west American is pretty nice. They are friendly and most of the places are very neat and tidy. The Iowa people are very friendly, and except in a couple of places Wisconsin people are too. But they are very different from the rest of America.
