Hannibal to Fairfield, Iowa

After staying a night in Missouri, we travel back to Illinois and then head north to Fort Madison, Iowa. We cross the Mississippi River via a double-decker bridge (cars on top, trains on the bottom). As we reach the other side the horn sounds, and we're lucky to see the bridge swing open and a barge come through. Then a train crosses the bridge. We also look at an old Indian Fort where we have a musket firing exhibition, before moving on to follow a scenic byway through the rolling hills of Iowa. There are more animals here, but still Corn and Soy Bean abound. There are historic towns along the way and we lunch at Bonaparte. After lunch we leave the byway and head north to  Maharishi (of Beatles fame) Vedic City. It is a whole community and university based around the Maharishi teachings. We head back to Fairfield for the evening.  Our first day in Iowa has been diverse. The days are still pretty hot.
